Spring At QISS
This year has flown by! Our students have made great progress this year, but need to keep practicing their English by reading, speaking, listening and writing as much as possible. Quarter 3 report cards will be coming home soon. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about their academic progress this year. We will be conducting WIDA testing in May to measure how much they have grown.
Winter At QISS
We have returned from Winter Break and are trying to stay warm through the cold weather. Students are working hard to practice reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in English. The Festival of Words provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to look more deeply into poetry and cognates. Please continue to encourage your child to use English as much as possible, especially during the upcoming Spring Festival holiday.
Fall At QISS
Please check your child's Quarter 1 progress report. You should find their ELL WIDA testing results included with the progress report distribution on Friday, September 8. You will also receive an invitation to our informational parent meetings on Friday September 15. The Upper School meeting will be held at 9:00 am in US room 406. The Lower School meeting will be held at 2:30 pm in LS room 304.
We have been busy conducting WIDA testing to determine our students' levels of English langauge proficiency. This service is provided to students that are in need of support in literacy (reading, writing, speaking, and listening). Though there is not a sole focus on providing direct English language instruction, students will grow as independent readers, writers, and English speakers. The framework that will be used throughout the year is proven to meet the following goals for students:
It's more than just speaking English!!
